  • Materials & Manufacturing
    • All mouthpieces are made by JJ Babbitt from 100% hard rubber, according to original blue print by Emil Anello. All mouthpieces are hand-finished to very close tolerances of 1/1000th of an inch.
  • Mouthpiece Appearance
    • Anello Brand mouthpieces are custom finished by hand. Any deviations in appearance are especially minor.
    • Hand-finishing will produce some minor filing marks and/or sanding marks on the baffle, rail, and table area.
    • An occasional minor scuff mark may be produced from the mouthpiece vice clamp.
  • Specifications
    • Tip Opening – Our mouthpieces are measured using the distance from the edge of material (the back edge of the tip rail), to the flat of the table, where the reed would be. This process measures the narrowest space for air to pass through between the mouthpiece material and the reed. Tip opening measurements are NOT taken at the extreme tip, as may be the case with other brands or mouthpiece craftsmen. Measurements at the extreme tip can be somewhat misleading, indicating a larger opening than the actual space available for air to pass through between the plane of the reed and the material of the mouthpiece. Please see the graphic below.
      Extreme Tip Cropped
    • Length of lay – The length of lay is the distance from the extreme tip of the beak to the beginning of the arch, the point where the table ends. All mouthpieces are currently prepared with a “regular” length of lay, except for the b flat clarinet, which is 0.720 as opposed to 0.640, which is considered to be regular length of lay. Please see graphic below, lower portion of photo.

  • Anello Mouthpiece Brand Labeling
    • Anello Mouthpieces are stamped near the back of the table (flat surface) with the tip opening category (C, M, O) followed by the length of lay. For example, MR indicates a mouthpiece with a “medium” tip opening and a “regular” length of lay. “C” is Close Tip Opening and “O” is Open Tip Opening. Anello Jazz Mouthpieces are stamped with XOR for “Extra Open, Regular Length Lay” on one side of the mouthpiece table and stamped on the other side of the mouthpiece table with the number 1, 2, 3, etc. that indicates the tip opening type.
  • Jazz Inlay Baffle
    • The hand-crafted addition of the Baffle creates a bright sound that projects greater than mouthpieces without the Baffle. The unique design of the Anello Jazz Inlay Baffle produces the fat sound often desirable for Funk, Jazz, or Rock performance, where the musician wants to cut through the music with brighter sound that really projects. Due to its ease of play, the Anello Jazz Inlay Baffle is used with larger tip openings available with the XOR models.
